It's hard to believe that it's been six months since my last chemotherapy. I DO NOT MISS IT! And one of the things I've been anxiously awaiting is the regrowth of my hair. Alright, I didn't miss shaving my legs, but I did miss the hair on my head.
When I stopped chemo, my first question was, how long does my hair take to grow in again? And luckily, there are a couple women out there kind enough to post hair growth. I want to add to their journeys as well.
About a month ago, I started taking several hair supplements that also kill cancer, like Biotin, Gotu Kola, and MSM. Since doing so, my hair growth, shine and texture have increased exponentially. My hair grew an inch just in the past month. If it keeps up, I'll have my long hair back in no time. I wish I had started those sooner. But we can't change the past. So here, after six months, this is my hair growth progression.... side note: Week 14 is missing because of surgery.

It's now been two years and seven months, and you can see how much my hair has grown!! It's healthier and stronger now than it's ever been in my life! Don't lose hope, it will grow!

DeleteThanks for putting these pics up.You look great. I have 2 more weeks of chemo. I have tiny white hair on my heard now, and I don't know if it will come in grey or tow head blond like when I was a baby. I did not have grey hair before chemo. Did you? Does the color change?
ReplyDeleteWOW! Loved these pictures you posted and all the time it took to post these! I am 10 months post chemo! My last chemo was March 23, 2015. I was stage 4 lymphoma. This was the most necessary journey that God wanted me to be on. My hair looked like it was going to be really gray all over, but the very dark brown (almost black) has over powered the peach fuzzy, gray. I do have some gray, but not like it appeared when it was first growing out. I also had very stick straight hair. No body at all! Wow! What a blessing I was given! I have beautiful curly hair. I'm a little disappointed that the Top is not growing faster. I've had two shape up trims around the sides and back to even it out. Top of my head has not been cut yet. One other thing for the readers, the peach fuzz on my face has grown so thick and fast...that I am now shaving my face! Aaaack! I lost my two big toe nails, 3 fingernails too. I was blessed to have such a nice shaped head...and I was able to rock that bald head. I was never ashamed to not wear a hat and to wear a wig? Oh my gosh! The wigs itched my head so bad...I couldn't stand it. So cute baseball hats were a big part of my attire in the cold months. I wore my bald head very proudly...as I was a warrior with God on my side to kick that cancer out of me! Ladies, remember this, God put each of us on a journey, and with faith... we are the "WINNERS"! No matter the result of our fate, we will always be the "WINNERS"! Chemo truly aged my skin, but I don't care! I'm alive and am here to write my testimony! Thank you Jesus for this journey, and my prayer for all those who are reading this, trust in God and thank him for every new chapter of your life. ReplyDeleteCathi, God bless you for your testimony! I had my last agressive chemo for Lymphoma on Jan. 9th of this year and results from PET scan and genetic test revealed Lymphoma is gone. I am praising God for trusting Him for my healing. I had a hard time with my hair loss but I always felt a peace. Thank you for sharing your testimony, it touched my heart.

ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! My four year old was diagnosed with leukaemia and finished the intense bit of her chemo in October. She was so bald by the end of it that I used to secretly wonder if it would ever grow back. Thankfully it has and it's following a very similar pattern to yours! Xxx
ReplyDeleteWow, I just finished chemo August 2015, I now have 6 inches of hair. I grow on average about an 1 inch a month. I started taking hair vitamins in January 2016 I was scared at first because I thought it would interfere with my tamoxifen. before the vitamins I was only getting a half inch a month. The other thing that the hair vitamins did was take away all that joint pain neuropathy, I was having some days I could barely walk but I haven't had an episode since. great to know that Biotin and MSM kills cancer. I take hair vitamins called Research verified and after 3 months I'm going to switch to hairfinity to see which one works best.

DeleteI finished chemo on march 24, 2016 and your pictures really helped me get an idea of how long things might take. My hair is starting to grow much quicker now and I have some good peach fuzz going. I had large grade B cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and it was only in my stomach so I was basically cured after my second round of chemo but had to do all six rounds. My hair started falling out right after the second round so I shaved it off Christmas morning. I had poker straight hair and I'm kind a looking forward to the possibility of some curls !
ReplyDeleteAmazing! Woowwww! You really are AnnCredible! You have fought and defeated cancer and regaining you hair at the same time is something that an ordinary person can do. I just thought if you had tried for a natural hair growth treatment. They are effective too.

Thank you all for the posting of good information. I have been done with TCH chemo since April 2016, radiation, and one more treatment of Herceptin in Dec. 2016 for HER2+ breast cancer. I am clear of the cancer, praise GOD! But my hair growth is only been 1.5in and not thick with thinning on the top of my head. I also have been taking Armidex since July 2016. My question is if anyone knows how to help with this, supplements, topical, I am very disappointing and upset by it. Even though it should be a minor issue compared to being cancer free which I am very thankful, but would like to grow some hair. I admire women who can sport a bald head or lack of hair. I am a young 63 yr old and do not want to draw attention or make anyone else uncomfortable. I want to appear to be normal again even though a person never is the same afterwards. My hair actually looks a lot like yours, started blond, grew in white and brown and although I'm black and my normal hair is natural black tightly curled hair, right now, my hair is really fine and straight and I'm a bit worried that I'll look like Dennis the Menace by the end of spring :) I'm stage 4 breast cancer, so the chance of being back in chemo in another couple of years is very possible, but I'm hoping to enjoy having some hair as much as I can while it is back.

ReplyDeleteThere are essentially three main reasons why losing of hair problem occurs. To stop this problem this need to be combated. Lack of adequate nutrition, pollution and external damage to hair and hormones are the three root causes that you need to address if you want to stop hair loss.
